Welcome to Heximer Ave Public School!
Dear Parents/Guardians:
1. Morning Entrance: Our changes to dismissal procedures with respect to parents waiting outside has greatly improved. Thank you for your co-operation, however, we are experiencing some similar issues in the morning. A letter was sent home earlier in the year outlining our entrance procedures and times. There appears to still be some confusion so I would like to re-address this process. No students are to be on school property until 8:30 a.m. as there is no supervision prior to that time. All students, primary, junior and intermediate are to enter the school from the back playground, not through the front or side doors. No students or parents are to be at lockers prior to the beginning of school at 8:45 a.m. Students will still be able to access the breakfast program, however, that program will not begin until 8:30 a.m. and is for students only. Students will access the program through the primary doors at the back of the school. Students will not be going to lockers. They will simply come in, go directly to breakfast club, have something to eat and then return outside, regardless of how much time is left before the 8:45 a.m. entrance time.
Please do not misread this communication as a sign of our school not continuing to be a welcoming place for students and parents. As always, parents play a significant role in our partnership in education, we simply need to control the flow of people in and out of our building for the safety of the students. Parents needing to speak with teachers need to come to the office and make an appointment.
Again, thank you for your patience, co-operation and understanding.
Should you have any questions or concerns regarding these items, please do not hesitate to contact me at the school.
2. Our school parking lot continues to be an area of concern at entry and dismissal. The limited number of open parking spots is problematic forcing people to park any and everywhere. This creates a highly unsafe environment for students, staff and visitors. With student safety first, the school parking lot will now be off limits during entrance and dismissal times for student drop-off and / or pick up. I would ask that all parents driving their children to and from school, use the designated parking zones along Heximer Ave and / or Margaret St., not the parking lot.
I apologize for any inconvenience or perceived appearance of unwelcome. As always, parents are an integral part of our mission in educating children and are most welcomed, however, student and staff safety are of the utmost importance and as such immediate action was necessary.
Your cooperation and understanding are greatly appreciated.
